One person dies in serious traffic accident on I-40 in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – One person was killed in a serious traffic accident that closed several lanes of I-40 in Knoxville on Thursday.

Knoxville Police officers responded to the crash at approximately 4:15 p.m. on I-40 W east of Pellissippi Parkway. Investigators believe at the time that a white SUV was slowing down due to traffic when it was struck from behind by a black pickup truck.

The driver of the white SUV, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the black pickup truck suffered minor injuries.

According to police, two more vehicles were hit after the first collision. No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the deceased is not being disclosed at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
