Bear attacks ultrarunner while running in Yosemite Valley

Jon-Kyle Mohr, a Californian ultrarunner, had a frightening experience on Sunday while completing a 50-mile race in Yosemite Valley.

According to the LA Times, Mohr was just a mile from completing the 50-mile run when he was attacked by a full-grown black bear.

Mohr was leaving his house to run 50 miles, a feat he said he had been planning for years. As he was about to complete the final stretch, he saw a huge black figure heading straight toward him.

According to the report, it was a huge black bear that collided with Mohr, causing the bear to spit out trash it had stolen from somewhere else while spectators shouted “Bear!” at the ultrarunner.

With the help of Mohr’s beating with his walking sticks and the spectators banging on pots and pans, they managed to drive the bear out of the area.

“If it had seriously wanted to do any kind of actual damage, it certainly could have done so,” he told the LA Times.

Curiously, the park rangers had tranquilized the bear earlier in the day and put a tracking collar on it. Later, the bear collided with Mohr.

Mohr only had minor wounds, which were bandaged by paramedics, and subsequently refused to be taken to the hospital.

A crazy day for Mohr, who was lucky that the bear decided to crawl back into the darkness instead of causing more damage.
