‘Serial rapist’ is accused of killing a woman he held in a torture chamber after her remains were found in a barrel, two years after another victim he chained and attacked managed to escape

A man who has posted racist and misogynistic content online in the past and is already behind bars is accused of committing brutal sexual crimes in his domestic dungeon. He now has to answer for murder.

Timothy Haslett Jr., 41, was first arrested in late 2022 after a 22-year-old black woman ran to the home of one of his neighbors and said she had escaped from his suburban Kansas City sex den after a month of captivity.

On Tuesday, Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson announced that Haslett was now charged with the premeditated murder of 36-year-old sex worker Jaynie Crosdale. Her body was discovered in a barrel in a Missouri river in June 2023. She was shot to death.

The 22-year-old victim had previously told investigators that Haslett had mentioned two other black women he had kidnapped who “didn’t make it.”

This victim said Haslett regularly drugged her, forced her to perform sexual acts, rarely fed her, and liked to dress in women’s underwear in front of her. Thompson described Haslett’s behavior as “barbaric.”

Haslett was linked to Crosdale’s death after the barrel she was found in was seen in photos investigators took at his home. Additionally, a photo showing the murdered woman was found in his dungeon, officials said.

When the woman’s body was found, her cousin Nikiyah Crosdale told KCUR that the victim, known by the nickname J-Bird, was “full of energy and life.”

Prosecutors believe she was murdered in June 2022. Her body was found by kayakers on the Missouri River. Before this discovery, she was considered a possible witness in the original case.

The case against Haslett began in October 2023, when Haslett’s surviving victim made her way to a home in the Excelsior Springs community, scarred, starving, and wearing a garbage bag and a metal collar around her neck.

She managed to escape while he was taking one of his children to school. Shortly after his arrest, his ex-wife filed for sole custody of the couple’s young child.

That woman recounted her ordeal to one of Haslett’s neighbors, nurse Lisa Johnson, and described the suspects’ sex cell, which was equipped with restraints, weapons – including stun guns – and cameras.

She said Haslett paid her $350 to ride home with him. After getting into his truck, she accused Haslett of pointing a gun at her and forcing her to perform sexual acts. He then drugged her and beat her unconscious.

The victim stated that when he arrived at his house he was abused and tortured on a daily basis and was forced to use a bucket as a toilet.

“It was such a quiet ‘help me,'” Johnson told DailyMail.com in 2022. “And I looked through our screen door and there was this girl huddled on the steps.”

“I could see immediately that she was in big trouble. She looked like something out of a horror movie.”

“She wore a homemade metal device tightly around her neck and had peeled off tape from her face that covered her mouth.

“Her wrists and ankles were broken. You could see that she had been tied up and whipped. The wounds on her body, wrists and ankles were actually bleeding.”

After their rescue, investigators found a Samsung phone with pictures and videos of the dungeon and the imprisoned women.

“The physical, psychological and sexual torture described by the defendant’s surviving victim is brutal and barbaric,” Thompson said.

“When crimes like this occur in our community, it can be devastating. I want the citizens of Clay County to know that the men and women of the Clay County District Attorney’s Office work hard inside and outside the courtroom to keep them safe and ensure justice is done.”

Based on her testimony, Haslett was charged with rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. In 2023, he pleaded not guilty. His bail was set at $5 million.

Although Haslett claims that two of his kidnapping victims died, he has only been charged with one murder. In Missouri, the death penalty is mandatory.
