21-year-old man from Ohio attacked by shark in Florida

A 21-year-old Ohio man is recovering from a shark attack in Florida that sent him to the hospital. It all happened Thursday afternoon on New Smyrna Beach, south of Daytona, Florida. Officials say he was playing football in knee-deep water when a shark surfaced and bit him on the foot. Witnesses said the man was surprisingly calm after the attack and two lifeguards helped him out of the deep water. He was taken to a nearby hospital. He is expected to survive. WLWT learned the victim is from southeast Ohio. A 26-year-old man was hospitalized Friday after being bitten by a shark on the same beach, according to Volusia Beach Safety. The incident occurred while the man was in an inflatable boat in about 5 feet of water when a shark suddenly bit him on the left foot, officials said. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was treated at the scene. He was later taken to the hospital. Beach safety officials are now warning beachgoers not to swim in front of an occupied lifeguard tower. They also reported nearly 400 rescues since Wednesday.

He was previously taken to a nearby hospital.
