Arrest made in Clay County hit-and-run investigation involving horse | News

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the investigation of a hit-and-run incident involving a horse.



CLAY COUNTY, Mississippi (WTVA) – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the investigation of a hit-and-run incident involving a horse.

Reco Collins rode his HorseBoone, on Waverly Road near West Point, when the two were struck by a red truck on July 1.

Collins was injured in the incident and Boone had to be euthanized due to severe injuries.

On Monday afternoon, investigators charged the driver with leaving the scene of an accident.

WTVA 9 News is not releasing the name of the driver as it is only a misdemeanor and not an arrest for a serious crime.

After the incident, photos of the truck were released.

“A lot of information came from the public who simply called us and gave us tips,” said Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott. “We Strictly speaking I probably reviewed a couple dozen tips that came in, you know, and worked through them. It was worth it.”

“I felt a lot better than I did that night,” Collins said of the arrest. “That night I thought, ‘Can we find this guy?’ And it was like a mystery. But we’re getting some answers. So it feels good.”

The driver faces 30 days to one year in jail and fines of up to $5,000 if he is sentenced.
