Another wet week, daily storm chance brings much needed rain

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We need the rain. There’s no other way to say it. A prolonged drought and the hottest weather of the past week have our soil, our gardens and even ourselves begging for showers and storms. We’re giving you the first alert on daily storm chances this week. Even though you won’t see the rain every day, we hope you get some.

TODAY

In the morning, clouds will linger, especially inland, for the first half of the day. Areas north and west of I-95 will continue to see some light showers this morning as a stationary front extends over the Pee Dee.

This stationary front will be key to our rain chances this week. Unfortunately, we won’t have many chances for the beaches today. If you plan on being outside today, prepare for another warm and humid day.

Highs today will rise to over 30 to below 35 degrees, with some isolated storms.

Temperatures will rise to over 30 degrees on the beaches and below 35 degrees inland. There may be isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the early afternoon, with a 30% chance inland. On the beaches, the chance of storms is 20%.

REST OF THE WEEK

The heat and humidity will continue every day, with the heat index ranging between 100 and 105 degrees every day this week. While it’s not as humid and brutal as last week and this weekend, it’s still enough to limit time spent outdoors.

The scattered showers and thunderstorms will stick around Tuesday and Wednesday before the chances start to increase towards the end of the week. Temperatures will again reach the upper 30s on the beaches, and the low to mid 90s inland. Rain chances will be 30% on the beaches on Tuesday and Wednesday, and increase to 40% inland by mid-week. While the chances are not widespread, they are there. We will take advantage of them.

BEST RAIN CHANCES

The latest data from this morning continues to indicate that chances for showers and thunderstorms are highest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. An upper-level system over northern Florida will pump more moisture into the Carolinas as the system attempts to move further north.

There is still a chance of rain next weekend with some showers and thunderstorms every day.

What does this mean for us? Hopefully some much-needed rain! We’re in a drought and can use all we can get. But since it’s still a few days away, we’re going to keep the storm chance low for now. If the data continues to support it, we’ll increase that storm chance to 60% or more later this week. For now, we’re expecting clouds and a few more storms around Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
