Danny Trejo claims he committed a racially motivated attack at the Fourth of July parade; read more here

Trigger warning: This article contains a reference to racist insults.

Danny Trejo, famous for his leading roles in Machete and Desperado, accused him and his colleagues of being selected because of their Mexican origins in connection with a parade celebrating Independence Day on July 4th.

This happened in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles. So during this holiday, Trejo was out with a group of friends when someone threw a water balloon at his lowrider convertible.

Escalation of the conflict

Things got worse when he heard someone say quietly, “That’s acid!” He then got out and looked for damage to his vehicle. The next moment, another water balloon was thrown at him by someone he thought was going to get hit by it, which led to a physical altercation between them.

In this context, Trejo said sadly: “I’m sad that I behaved like that. I’m so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy a day.”

Allegations of racist objectives

Mr. Trejo’s friend, who was involved in the scuffle, also confirmed this statement, pointing out that the people around them were not affected. In addition, bruises were visible all over Trejo’s friend’s arms, as he said they “stomped on (his) arms” and “held him down.” However, Trejo assured that he was fine, saying, “They couldn’t hurt me.”

Afterwards, Danny added again, “I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man who still talks and laughs.” This episode revealed Mr. Trejo’s experience as a participant in such parades and the incessant problems that have to do with racism. In this case, it sheds light on the sad longevity of these feelings and the need to confront them.
