Morgan Wallen is a ‘better person’ after racist slur incident, Darius Rucker claims

Country star Darius Rucker believes it’s time to forgive fellow musician Morgan Wallen for using a racial slur in 2021.

Rucker, known for his work with Hootie & the Blowfish, expressed his belief that Wallen has grown since the incident. “I think Morgan has become a better person,” Rucker said on the Music Now podcast, referring to his long-standing relationship with the younger artist.

The controversy began in February 2021, when a video was released in which Wallen used the N-word. The consequences were not long in coming: radio stations pulled his music from their programs and his label suspended him. Wallen was also banned from attending award ceremonies.

Despite these setbacks, Wallen’s career flourished. His 2023 album One Thing at a Time broke records and he embarked on a successful tour.

Rucker argued that full forgiveness remains elusive, citing Wallen’s continued exclusion from major country music awards.
