Two people arrested during basketball tournament in Roxbury and loaded weapon seized – police report Boston 25 News

BOSTON – Two 18-year-olds were arrested Wednesday night during a basketball tournament in Roxbury on suspicion of weapons possession and disorderly conduct.

Anthony Diaz of Malden is charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without a permit and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Braxten Baker of Brockton is charged with disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

According to Boston police, an outdoor basketball tournament was taking place at Malcolm X Park when officers noticed Diaz and Baker around 9:30 p.m., who reportedly showed no interest in the game and were more focused on the officers.

According to authorities, both Diaz and Baker exhibited the characteristics of a person carrying a weapon.

While officers continued to investigate, authorities said Diaz abruptly attempted to leave the tournament and ran when police approached him.

Diaz was caught after a brief struggle and police said they found a loaded black Ruger semi-automatic pistol with no serial number in his shorts. Investigators said there were six live rounds in the gun and one bullet in the chamber.

Baker allegedly tried to prevent Diaz’s arrest by pushing the arriving officers. He was also arrested.

Both young men are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
