At approximately 7:40 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in East Bexar County after numerous shots were fired into a home in what officials believe was a targeted incident.

When officers entered the home, they found two adults and three children with gunshot wounds. The Bexar County coroner’s office said Thursday morning that a 4-year-old girl died from her injuries.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, all of the other victims are in critical condition.

The three children shot are all under the age of ten, and the youngest victim was the four-year-old girl who died. Salazar said in a news conference Wednesday evening that the charges against the suspects could “easily” be upgraded to murder if one of the children dies.

Salazar also confirmed that his department is looking for two suspects, and he is fairly confident they will make arrests soon.

The suspects were seen driving to the home before getting out and firing semi-automatic rifles into the home.

Salazar said the suspects knew the victims and spoke to them before the shooting.

“It is my opinion that the people we consider suspects knew that there were several children in the house where they shot,” Salazar said.

Approximately 20 to 25 shots were fired into the home using high-powered weapons before the suspects left the area.

“It’s a miracle we’re not dealing with five bodies right now,” Salazar said.

Officials say there is no immediate threat to the public at this time and the investigation is ongoing. If anyone has more information about the shooting, Salazar asks them to call 210-335-6000.
