Phoenix woman arrested one year after infant’s death

In June 2023, the baby was found unconscious in a Phoenix apartment building and later died.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Arizona – A Phoenix woman was arrested Thursday, more than a year after a 1-year-old baby died from fentanyl poisoning.

Lynandra Walton, 38, faces several criminal charges in connection with the death of her baby in June 2023.

According to court documents, the child was taken to the hospital after being found unconscious in a residence near 55th Avenue and Indian School Road.

A coroner later determined that the baby had died from fentanyl.

Drug paraphernalia was allegedly found in the apartment, but Walton denied taking drugs, court records show. Investigators reported finding pills on the bed and floor where Walton and the baby had been sleeping.

During a subsequent interview with police, the suspect admitted to abusing fentanyl, records show. Walton was subsequently taken to the Maricopa County Jail.
