Protesting against Kejriwal’s arrest, Rajya Sabha announces lifting of AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s suspension | Delhi News

The lifting of the suspension of Sanjay Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP from Delhi, was announced on Thursday, nearly a year after he was barred from sittings in the Upper House.

The Measures against Singh This came after tensions escalated on July 24 last year between the opposition, which had demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement in Parliament on the situation in Manipur, followed by a discussion, and the government.

When the announcement came, Singh and representatives of the Samajwadi Party, AAP’s ally in the INDIA bloc, happened to be protesting against the CBI’s arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case on Wednesday.

Earlier on the same day, the AAP had announced that it would boycott the President’s address to protest against the central government’s “dictatorial” actions against the AAP chairman.

“Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested and put in jail by the CBI, though he was likely to be granted bail by the Supreme Court but the trial court had granted him bail. The Prime Minister should stop the misuse of the investigative agencies,” Singh said.

Festive offer

“We will boycott the President’s speech because it was written by the government and it contains big statements about democracy. But on the contrary, the Constitution is being violated all over India. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain have been arrested. That is why we are protesting here and opposing the President’s speech,” he added.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, who had announced Singh’s suspension, announced its revocation in a statement issued on Thursday. “Honourable Members, you may recall that Shri Sanjay Singh, Honourable Member, was suspended from serving in Parliament on 24th July, 2023, pending the submission of its findings by the Committee on Privileges,” the statement said.

On June 26, the Vice President further stated, the Rajya Sabha Privileges Committee submitted its 77th and 78th reports on pending cases against Singh.

“Although the Committee found Shri Sanjay Singh guilty of all counts of breach of the privileges of the Council, it concluded that the member had already received sufficient punishment for his breach,” the statement added.

Subsequently, Dhankhar said, he invoked the authority vested in him as Chairman under Rules 202 and 266 of the Rules of Procedure of the Rajya Sabha to lift Singh’s suspension with effect from Wednesday, June 26.
