Man hit and killed while crossing road in Broward – NBC 6 South Florida

A man was struck and killed while crossing an Interstate 95 exit ramp in Fort Lauderdale early Thursday morning, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. when the driver of a white Cadillac struck the victim as he was traveling south on I-95 and attempting to turn east onto Interstate 595, authorities said.

The pedestrian, a 43-year-old Lauderdale Lakes man, was “struck by the right front corner of the vehicle as (the driver) attempted to swerve,” FHP said.

The driver pulled over to the shoulder of the road and called 911, authorities said. When an officer arrived, he performed CPR on the victim until emergency responders arrived and took the man to a hospital “with possible head trauma.”

The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the hospital, FHP said. The driver “was evaluated for signs of impairment, but none were found.”

It is unclear why the pedestrian was on the road.

The southbound I-95 exit ramp to eastbound I-595 will remain closed until further notice, FHP said.
