Boxer Ryan Garcia banned for one year after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine

Update (21 June 2024): boxer Ryan Garcia has officially been suspended for one year after reaching an agreement with the New York State Athletic Commission. The decision comes after Ryan Garcia The test for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine was positive, the Commission announced on Thursday (20 June).

It dates back to the time of the 25-year-old infamous victory against fellow boxers Devin Haney on April 20, so the win was changed to a no-contest.

As part of the agreement Ryan Garcia will lose his wallet, which amounts to about $1.2 million. However, it was found that his guaranteed income exceeds this amount and is well into the millions. He was also fined $10,000 by the Commission.

Garcia will be readmitted in April 2025 if his urine test is clean and drug-free.

The athlete, who had announced his retirement from the sport just hours before the suspension, reacted to the news with a series of messages on X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote, among other things:

“They took the victory from me”

He later added that he “come out of retirement” as soon as the ban is lifted.

He then denied ever having cheated and demanded Devin Haney a “crybaby slut”.

He also claimed that he would “go to the UFC” next.

He reiterated that he never used performance-enhancing drugs and said he should refund his money since the fight technically never happened.

He also called Devin Haney again and reposted Haney’s Video of him dancing despite the ban.

In the meantime, Garcia’s Team made an official statement and said loudly USA today,

“Ryan has voluntarily submitted to random testing for many years, even out of competition, and has never had any problems. He has maintained an impeccable and clean record throughout his career, taking the sport of boxing to a significantly higher level and earning the respect and admiration of millions of fans around the world.”

It was later hinted that he would be “back in the ring.”

Devin Haney also made a statement.

“I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me throughout the process. Facts are facts and I did not have an equal opportunity. I am glad I was able to get justice for what happened. This is all part of my story and will only make me better. I look forward to enjoying this time with my family and friends and seeing what comes next.”

He continued,

“I am a clean athlete and boxing is a brutal sport where one fight can literally change your life. I think it’s important for fighters to be clean and I want to advocate for clean athletes because of my experiences in this situation.”
