Persistently high temperatures and humidity; risk of heavy rain showers on Friday afternoon

FORECAST:

According to Storm Team meteorologist Michele Power, not much has changed, as there is still a large, persistent ridge of high pressure over the region and the heat beneath it is increasing by the day. Temperatures off the water reached 90 degrees or more today, so the heat wave is continuing in some areas.


A heatwave is defined as three or more consecutive days of temperatures above 32 degrees. What really bothers us is the humidity with very high dew points (from over 18 to almost 21 degrees), making it feel more like 35 degrees. In some places it feels like 36 or 37 degrees. This can be problematic for our health and it is important to take precautions.



The National Weather Service is issuing a heat warning that will last through Saturday and will affect southern Fairfield County.


It is cooler on the coast and beaches, with temperatures above 27 degrees Celsius but humidity remaining the same.

There is a risk of strong to severe storms on Friday as a front moves into the area. Storms moving in later in the day could be strong or severe, with heavy rain and damaging winds being the main threat.
