2 dead after shooting at Juneteenth celebration in Texas

Two people were killed and several injured in a shooting during a Juneteenth celebration in a Texas park on Saturday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday in Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, a city about 30 kilometers north of Austin.

Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said the shooting was sparked after an altercation between two groups during a concert at the event. The shooting occurred near a vendor area off the stage.

The two victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were not involved in the altercation, he said.

Police and firefighters on site immediately began providing emergency medical care to several injured people and then transported them to local hospitals, Allen said.

“It’s heartbreaking for a family that came to enjoy the evening and whose lives are now changed forever because of someone who couldn’t care less about other people’s lives,” Allen said.

According to CBS affiliate KEYE-TV, the Juneteenth celebrations were announced as a free, family-friendly event.

The artists at the concert included DJ Hella Yella and Paul Wall, who performed in a Post on social media“Round Rock, we pray for everyone.”

Police have no suspects in custody and investigators do not know how many shooters were involved. The investigation is ongoing, the police chief said.
