Railway company investigates fatal train accident in Bainbridge

BAINBRIDGE, Georgia (WALB) – A man died after being hit by a train in Bainbridge Saturday morning.

At about 9:37 a.m., a pedestrian was crossing the railroad tracks at the intersection of Albany Road and Back Street in Bainbridge, according to Bainbridge Public Safety Captain Charles Strickland.

Authorities confirmed that the victim was deaf and a resident of Bainbridge.

The victim was walking south on Albany Road when he crossed the railroad tracks and was struck head-on by a train.

According to Strickland, camera footage shows the victim running across the tracks and being hit by the front of the train.

The victim was treated by emergency services and flown by helicopter to a hospital in Tallahassee, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The man’s identity is currently unknown as the family has not yet been notified.

Strickland told WALB that CSX’s investigative team is looking into the incident, with Bainbridge Public Safety acting as a support unit for the company.
