Fifth-grader “sexually harassed” at CTG school; teacher arrested

One of the accused, Md Rakib Uddin, was arrested yesterday (June 11) while driving.

A fifth-grader at a Chattogram school was allegedly sexually harassed by two teachers on school premises.

The student’s mother filed a complaint against the two teachers, Md Rakib Uddin and Surajit Pal, under the Prevention of Oppression of Women and Children Act at the Kotwali police station yesterday (June 11), Obayedul Haque, officer-in-charge of the Kotwali police station, told The Business Standard.

One of the accused, Md Rakib Uddin, was arrested yesterday while driving.

According to the case statement, on June 9, at around 10:10 am during lunch break, the two teachers of Scholastica Girls School and College took the girl near the toilet on the sixth floor of the school and sexually harassed her.

“When my daughter was frightened by her behavior and tried to scream, the two teachers threatened her to be quiet and then left the scene,” the mother said in the statement.

The mother stated that her daughter started crying when she came home from school that day. When asked why, her daughter told her the whole story.

Despite several attempts to reach the student’s mother by telephone, she could not be reached for comment.

OC Obayedul Haque told TBS that the arrested teacher was produced before the court.

Police are trying to nab the other accused in the case, he added.
