Police inspector suspended for failing to prevent murder of historian

The Korukkupet police inspector was suspended for failing to prevent a fight between two historians on Monday, which led to the murder of one of them.

The city police said that R. Yuvaraj, police inspector of Korukkupet police station, did not take adequate precautions despite being informed in advance about an impending clash between two groups led by two history-sheeters within the Korukkupet police station premises.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh alias ‘Sweet’ Dinesh, 24, a resident of Rettaikuzhi Street in Tondiarpet. A criminal case has been registered against him. Police have arrested four persons involved in the murder and have launched a manhunt for two other suspects.

On Monday afternoon, he was drinking alcohol at a bar next to a Tasmac outlet on Ekambaram Street in Korukkupet when a gang, including ‘Biscuit’ Santhosh, tried to attack him with knives. Though he managed to escape, the gang chased and murdered him.

Dinesh was admitted to Government Stanley Hospital where he was declared dead.

In September last year, Dinesh had attacked 22-year-old Santhosh of Korukkupet due to past hostilities. In revenge, Santhosh and his gang hacked Dinesh to death.
