Buffalo police arrested Del Denby for shooting suspect

Buffalo police have arrested a suspect in the killing of a 46-year-old man outside a Hertel Avenue bar last month.

Police, on the department’s social media channels, said over the weekend that they had a suspect in custody, but declined to confirm that it was William Quinones, who police identified as the suspect in early June.

A person by that name was being held Monday at the Erie County Detention Center downtown, according to an inmate list posted on the sheriff’s office website.

“The Buffalo Police Department has one person in custody in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred in the 1500 block of Hertel on May 7, 2024,” according to a statement posted on the Buffalo Police Facebook page. Buffalo.

Madjid Elbert, a chef restaurant professionals describe as a big brother, was shot and killed after an argument on the patio of Del Denby Tavern in the early morning hours of May 7. Police and prosecutors announced that a grand jury indicted Quinones on June 3.

The city closed Del Denby later that day, but allowed it to reopen in late May under restrictive conditions agreed to by operators.

Conditions imposed by the city’s Department of Permits and Inspections include a 2 a.m. closing time four days a week; at least two private security guards available Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings; and close its back patio at 11 p.m. or midnight.
