Houston Police Chief Troy Finner resigns amid suspended cases scandal

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner is no longer the head of the Houston Police Department amid a suspended cases scandal. Finner sent a letter to Mayor John Whitmire announcing his retirement last night. The move comes on the same day that emails emerged showing Finner was aware of a “understaffing” code dating back to 2018. The department previously admitted the code was used to suspend 264 000 incident reports, including more than 4,000 sexual ones. reports of assault dating back to 2016. Finner released a statement last night saying he never intended to mislead anyone and had no recollection of the e- email. Mayor Whitmire has named Larry Satterwhite as interim chief. Satterwhite was the executive assistant chief.
