Alabama father and son charged with drug trafficking after months-long investigation

A father and son are behind bars after a months-long drug investigation in Blount County. Late Sunday night, officers seized 90 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop, which led to a search of a home on Painter Road where 32-year-old Dalton Gilliland and his father, Raymond Gilliland, 54, live, according to Snead police. According to police, the Gillilands have been suspected for months of distributing large quantities of drugs in the Susan Moore community and were the target of a joint investigation by the Snead, Susan Moore and Blountsville police departments. Raymond also faces a weapons charge. A father and his son are behind bars after a months-long investigation into drug offenses in Blount County.

Late Sunday night, officers seized 90 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop, which led to a search of a home on Painter Road where 32-year-old Dalton Gilliland and his father, Raymond Gilliland, 54, lived, according to Snead police.

Police say the Gillilands have been suspected for months of distributing large quantities of drugs in the Susan Moore community and were the target of a joint investigation by the Snead, Susan Moore and Blountsville police departments. A search of their home turned up multiple firearms, drug paraphernalia and 2 kg of methamphetamine.

The Gillilands were both arrested and charged with drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to resell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Raymond is also charged with weapons possession.

Due to the proximity of the crimes to the Susan Moore school system, additional charges are being filed.

“We will not tolerate any drug activity near our children, our teachers or our communities,” said Snead Police Chief Marcus Hodgins.
