1 dead after pedestrian accident on Highway 99 near Minter Field Airport

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 3, 2024) – A pedestrian died in an accident on Highway 99 early Friday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on May 31. For reasons still under investigation, the victim was struck by a vehicle near Minter Field Airport, just south of Merced Avenue.

Rescue workers pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the victim’s identity until next of kin were notified.

Further information about the driver was not initially disclosed.

The emergency services temporarily cordoned off the affected areas to create space for investigation.

CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Officials will release additional information as it becomes available.
