Virginia: Cyclist hit and killed in Frederick County

A Virginia man was struck and killed while riding his bike in Frederick County, Maryland, on Saturday.

Maryland State Police said officers arrived at the intersection of U.S. Route 15 and Catoctin Furnace Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. for a crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle.

Scott Cornell Binde, 64, of Alexandria was riding his bicycle across Route 15 on Catoctin Furnace Road when he was struck by a Toyota 4Runner. He died at the scene.

The driver of the accident vehicle remained at the scene.

The police assume that alcohol did not play a role in the accident. The accident is still being investigated.

About three hours after the fatal accident, Route 15 northbound was reopened to traffic.
