Man with Nevada State Police ID card killed trying to cross I-80

Nevada State Police identified a man who was killed Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 80.

The victim was Lamont Caldwell Jr., 24, of Nevada, police said in a news release Tuesday evening.

Police responded to a report that a man was struck in the eastbound lanes of I-80 at Wells Avenue around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a juvenile, along with four other juvenile passengers, was driving a Ford F-150 in the far left lane and struck Caldwell, who was crossing the highway illegally, police said. Caldwell died at the scene.

The driver and other passengers in the Ford were not injured in the accident, police said. The driver and other passengers cooperated with the investigation.
