Update: Sumter police identify third suspect as investigation into fatal shooting continues | Midlands

Sumter police officials have identified a third suspect in connection with a shooting Monday morning on Green Swamp/Guignard Drive.

Authorities say 20-year-old Fernando Quintez Adams of Beckridge Drive in Sumter is wanted for murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Tavares McFadden and the injury of one of McFadden’s passengers.

The other suspect, 19-year-old Curtis Jefferson of Mayesville, remains in custody and officers are currently working to locate Adams and another juvenile who was also identified in the case.

The incident occurred Monday at the intersection of Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive. According to officials, officers were responding to a shooting call at approximately 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive when they found a crashed vehicle in the area.

The driver, Tavares Keiwaun McFadden, 32, of Blanche Road, was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. His 28-year-old passenger, who also suffered a gunshot wound, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is recovering at home.

According to information gathered by police, McFadden’s car was stopped at a stoplight on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove up next to him. Shots were fired before the car sped away on South Guignard Drive.

Jefferson was taken into custody Wednesday morning and is currently being held in the county jail. Officials have also identified a juvenile involved in the shooting and are working to locate him.
