Three suspects arrested in Rockford carjacking, police say gun found | MyStateline

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – Rockford police arrested three suspects Saturday accused of stealing a car.

According to Rockford police, officers with the Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) unit spotted the vehicle around 12:20 a.m. and observed it turning into a Mobil gas station at 2605 Broadway.


Two of the suspects, Legion Charlton Jr., 20, and Tyler Lawson, 31, entered the store and were arrested by police.

Authorities said the third suspect, 19-year-old Corey Jackson, fled but was later arrested.

During the investigation, a loaded weapon was seized, police said.

Lawson is considered an armed habitual offender by law enforcement. He has been charged with trespassing, aggravated discharge, armed habitual offender and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Jackson was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Charlton Jr. was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

Jackson and Charlton Jr. were taken to jail but were released after being remanded in custody and were summoned to appear in court at a later date.

The state has requested that Lawson be held in custody pending trial. His detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
