NWS weather warning issued for Northfield area

NORTHFIELD, MN — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather warning for the Northfield area.

Residents must expect wind speeds of up to 65 km/h. Penny-sized hailstones are possible.

“Seek shelter in a sturdy building,” the warning continues.

Some storms could bring large hail and strong wind gusts, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out across the region on Friday.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms before 4 p.m., then a slight chance of rain. High around 72. Southeast wind around 15 mph, becoming southwest in the afternoon. Gusts can reach 30 mph. Chance of precipitation 90%. Nine precipitation amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, but higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49. Breezy, with west winds 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, high around 74 degrees. South southwest wind around 10 mph.

Saturday night: 30% chance of rain, especially after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. South southwest wind around 10 mph becoming east southeast after midnight.

East-southeast wind around 10 mph, becoming northeast in the afternoon. A 60% chance of precipitation. New precipitation amounts between 0.25 and 0.5 inches possible.
