Houston derecho 2024: Dashcam shows car blowing out window during last week’s downtown storm

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Houston lawyer spent last week’s storm crouched in his badly damaged car downtown, and his dash cam recorded it all.

Michael Lombardino, a partner at Haynes Boone, said he had just watched the video, which he shared exclusively with Eyewitness News.

“It’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me,” Lombardino said.

He had just left his office and said it was only raining. But after walking just a few blocks, that quickly changed.

“A wall of wind and water came out of nowhere and hit me,” Lombardino said.

Lombardino turned toward Louisiana and positioned himself in front of the Wells Fargo Plaza, hoping the building would block the wind.

Instead, the office tower lost several windows and the glass rained down on Lombardino and everyone on the street below. Several windows in his car were cracked and his sunroof collapsed under the weight of the shards of glass.

The wind blows through the back window of the car right in front of him, then moves the car. Lombardino said he didn’t see that until he watched the video.

“I was afraid all my windows would collapse and I didn’t want to get hit by a thousand pieces of glass. So I hid under my jacket and peeked out every now and then,” he said. he declares. .

In the chaos, we see a car backing towards two people. At least one man who appears to have been injured by storm debris approaches Lombardino’s car.

“You could see a lot of blood on him. Poor guy,” he said.

But throughout this ordeal, Lombardino’s thoughts are with the two people who mean the most to him.

“All I remember is thinking about my beautiful wife and my two children. I don’t want to lose them,” he said. “Thank God I’m still here. Thank God I’m still here.”
