2-year-old boy found in makeshift cage covered in feces in Buffalo; mother arrested: report

A 2-year-old boy was found trapped in a makeshift cage covered in feces, according to Syracuse.com.

Officers went to a home on Chadduck Avenue in Buffalo on Feb. 8 to arrest Naesha Lumpkin for a previous felony charge. It was during this visit that authorities discovered the little child soaked in urine and stuck in a cage.

The boy’s mother created the cage using a playpen with a piece of a crib attached to it, New York State Police told the publication.

Officers told media that everything, including the walls surrounding the cage, the bedding and the toddler found inside, was covered in feces. The cage was so small that the boy could not stand inside, according to the report.

Doctors identified bruising on the boy’s face and body as well as two fractured ribs that were beginning to heal, according to Syracuse.com.

Lumpkin was arrested and charged with child endangerment, according to the report. The woman told police her son fell down a flight of stairs in late December or early January, but she did not seek medical attention for his injuries, according to the outlet.
