Fairfield man killed after crash on Interstate 5920 in Jefferson County

A Fairfield man died after an overnight accident. Alabama State Troopers reported that Kelvin Matthews, 46, was driving a car on Interstate 2059 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The accident occurred about two miles north of Fairfield on May 10 around 11 p.m. State troopers said Matthews was taken to UAB Hospital and later died from his injuries on May 11. A Fairfield man died after an overnight accident.

Alabama State Troopers reported that 46-year-old Kelvin Matthews was driving a car on Interstate 2059 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. on May 10 and occurred about two miles north of Fairfield.

State troopers said Matthews was taken to UAB Hospital and later died from his injuries on May 11.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
