One person killed, 8 injured in multi-car collision in Muvattupuzha

Ernakulam: One person died while eight others were injured after three vehicles collided on the Muvattupuzha-Thodupuzha road amid heavy rain on Saturday. The accident occurred near Nirmala College Junction around 4 pm.

The deceased was identified as Kumari, a resident of Ezhumuttom. Their son K Anu (40), his wife Lakshmipriya (38) and daughter Dikshita (9) sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Kolenchery Medical College.

The accident was caused when a car carrying six friends while traveling from Muvattupuzha to Vagamon lost control, collided with another car and then collided with a third vehicle parked on the side of the road.

Kumari’s family was in the second car coming from Ezhumuttom while a couple and their six-month-old baby were in the third vehicle from Karunagappally going in the opposite direction. The family of three remained uninjured.

The group of friends who sustained injuries in the accident were admitted to Muvattupuzha General Hospital. Following the accident, there were traffic delays on the Muvattupuzha-Thodupuzha road. The collision caused total damage to one vehicle and partial damage to the other two.
