Family fears Atlanta teen may have been trafficked after disappearing in carpool – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — An Atlanta family is desperately searching for a 16-year-old they fear may be a trafficking victim.

Mekiya Smith hasn’t been seen since she got into a red Lyft after leaving Coretta Scott King Academy Friday afternoon.

The family said Channel 2 Action News that she has no history of running away and that she fears she may have been a victim of trafficking.

Police are investigating Smith’s disappearance and say his phone, which was no longer charged, rang on Rainbow Drive in Decatur, more than 17 miles from his school.

They shared a doorbell camera image that shows Smith wearing what she was last seen in: khaki pants, a white sweatshirt with pink writing, pink Nike shoes and a purse pink.

She is described as five feet four inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds.
