Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been suspended for one match and fined Rs 30 lakh for repeated violations of the IPL code of conduct. The penalty was imposed after DC maintained a slow over rate in the 56th match of the IPL against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday (May 7).

This was DC’s third over-the-top offense of the season. The first was on March 31 against Chennai Super Kings, for which he was fined Rs 12 lakh. The second match was against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3 and was fined Rs 24,000. After the third violation, a suspension and a fine of 30,000 rupees were imposed.

Not just Pant, other Delhi Capitals players, including the impact player, were fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fees – whichever is less.

Pant will miss Delhi Capitals’ crucial match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday (May 12). The winner of the competition significantly increases their playoff chances.

“As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the Impact Player, have been individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less,” a BCCI press release said.

“In accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals have appealed against the decision of the match referee. The complaint was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding,” the statement said.
