Odisha government suspends senior IPS officer for ‘misconduct’

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha state government on Tuesday suspended senior IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for alleged abuse of office, an official statement said.

Uttamrao, a 2007 batch IPS officer, served as DIG in the Fire and Home Guard Services in Odisha.

“A complaint has been received alleging that Pandit has insulted the dignity of his office by abusing his power last Saturday (July 27),” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) statement said.

Prime Minister Mohan Charan Majhi took immediate action after returning from his four-day visit to New Delhi on Monday evening, it said.

Majhi asked the department concerned to “immediately suspend the erring senior police officer and take appropriate action against him.”

“On his orders, he was suspended,” the statement continued.
