Man found dead outside In-N-Out identified

Authorities identified a man found dead outside the In-N-Out in Newbury Park Saturday morning.

Michael Sofley, 63, of Thousand Oaks, was discovered in the drive-thru entrance of the fast-food restaurant, according to the coroner’s office and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, which investigated the death. The cause and manner of Sofley’s death have not yet been determined, the coroner’s office said.

The discovery of his body sparked an investigation by police detectives, but they quickly learned from surveillance camera footage that Sofley was walking in the parking lot at around 5:50 a.m. when he suddenly collapsed.
