Championship club suspends head coach following RFL investigation – Total Rugby League

CHAMPIONSHIP club Sheffield Eagles have suspended head coach Mark Aston following an RFL investigation into a medical compliance matter.

For this reason, Eagles boss and physiotherapist Mick Heys must now appear before an Operational Rules Tribunal.

Sheffield released this statement: “Following discussions with the RFL and a board meeting, the club has decided to suspend Mark Aston and Mick Heys from their duties through no fault of their own pending the Operational Rules Tribunal. With immediate effect. All parties are working cooperatively with the RFL in the lead up to the Operational Rules Tribunal.

“Transitional arrangements for the suspended staff will come from the existing coaching team, with both staff members being offered social support during this time.

“The club will not comment further on this matter pending the outcome of the Operational Rules Tribunal.”
