Man rapes wife’s niece at knifepoint, arrested | Mumbai News

Mumbai police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly raping his wife’s 20-year-old niece at knifepoint. The accused had threatened to kill the young woman and her family if she told anyone about the incident.

According to the police, the complainant works in a private company to support her family.

In her report to the police, she stated that she had moved in with her aunt a few months ago.

On June 15, when she was alone with her aunt, the aunt’s husband, who works for a private company, came into the house and sensed an opportunity. He took a knife from the kitchen and raped the young woman at knifepoint.

The accused also threatened to kill her aunt, her cousin and himself if she told anyone anything about the incident, a police source said.

The young woman was scared and did not tell anyone until she told her sister on Saturday. Her sister then informed her mother about the incident. The victim’s mother then took the girl to the police station and filed a report.

Following the woman’s complaint, the police arrested the accused on Saturday evening. The police have not yet been able to recover the knife used in the crime.

A medical examination of the woman was conducted at Rajawadi Hospital.

The accused has been booked under sections 376 (rape) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, a police official said.
