Minister: Bangladesh police were ‘forced to open fire’ after last week’s unrest

Bangladeshi police have acted with restraint but were “forced to open fire on protesters” to protect government buildings during nationwide unrest last week, Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told reporters.

“Despite killing their colleagues, they showed utmost patience,” Khan told reporters. “But when they saw that the buildings could not be protected, the police were forced to open fire.”
