Convicted sex offender receives 30 years in prison for sexual exploitation and abuse of minors in Maryland: Federal authorities

Hagerstown resident Matthew Molnar was sentenced to 30 years in prison, followed by 15 years probation, for sexual exploitation of a child.

According to prosecutors, Molnar was convicted of possession of child pornography in 2015 and had contact with a minor in Florida between 2020 and 2021, whom he forced to produce sexually explicit videos for him.

He later traveled to the minor and claimed that he was 17 years old and studying law.

Molnar’s deception continued in February 2022, when he began talking to a minor in Maryland and exchanging explicit messages before having sex with her on multiple occasions, court documents say.

During a subsequent search of Molnar’s Hagerstown home, investigators found several sexually explicit files that included the minor, and an inspection of his devices revealed that he had distributed child pornography.

In addition to his prison sentence, a judge ordered Molnar to pay $18,000 in restitution and to register as a sex offender in all places where he works, studies or lives after his release.
