Weekend accidents cost lives and send many people to hospital

One person died and four were injured in two serious accidents over the weekend.

A 70-year-old Port Angeles man died in an accident outside McCleary earlier this weekend.

According to a Washington State Patrol news release, the man was driving his 2001 Honda CRV on SR 8 at SR 108 when he attempted to make a left turn. A motor home driven by a 67-year-old Yelm woman attempted to change lanes to avoid the vehicle and struck it mid-turn.

The driver of the Honda died as a result of the accident; his death was reported at Summit Pacific Medical Center.

His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Two people in the RV, including the driver and a 66-year-old Yelm resident, were injured in the accident and taken to Summit Pacific Medical Center.

A second serious crash occurred Saturday when a 63-year-old man from Aberdeen was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala north on SR 105 and attempted to make a left turn when he struck a 77-year-old man from Grayland driving a 2004 Ford Mustang. The vehicles remained on the road and in the ditch, blocking the roadway during the response.

Both drivers were injured in the crash. The Aberdeen man was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, while the Grayland man was transported to Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital.

Both cars were totaled.

The cause of both accidents was said to be failure to give way.
