The Current opened the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup with a 3-1 victory over NWSL rivals the Houston Dash in the club’s first-ever international tournament.

After just 55 seconds of play, forward Temwa Chawinga made a perfect play from the left and found forward Michelle Cooper who scored the winning goal for the Current. Midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta scored the winning goal in the 68th minute and forward Kristen Hamilton secured the win late in the game, scoring her 40th goal in all competitions, becoming the 17th NWSL player to reach that milestone.

The team will return to the CPKC stadium next Saturday, July 27, for its second Group C match. Current will face Liga MX Femenil opponent CF Pachuca in a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Our photographer Tarik Sykes was there to capture all the action.
