Tantrik jailed for raping woman on pretext of solving domestic problems in Thane

Thane (PTI): A 55-year-old tantrik was arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a woman on the pretext of solving some domestic problems in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Friday.

Acting on a complaint, police on Wednesday arrested accused Santosh Poddar alias Vinod Pandit from Shanti Nagar area of ​​Mira Road under sections 376(2)(n) (committing repeated rape of the same woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and others relevant provisions of the IPC and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, an official said.

The accused, who claimed to be a tantrik (sorcerer), was active in the area and advertised on Facebook, he said.

The victim approached Poddar to find a solution to some domestic problems and he allegedly raped her multiple times on the pretext of curing her, the official said.

The accused also made offensive videos of her and threatened her, he said.

Fed up with the harassment, she contacted the police earlier this week, he said, adding that an investigation was underway to find out whether the accused had exploited other women in a similar manner.
