“Top Chef Masters” star dies in bizarre dinghy accident

Naomi Pomeroy, star of Top chefhas died in a horrific accident. She was out on a raft with her husband, Kyle Webster, and one other person on the Willamette River in Oregon. The group reportedly got stuck on an “exposed obstruction in the water.” Pomeroy was pulled underwater and became caught on a paddleboard rope that was attached to her. She drowned shortly afterward.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office provided more information about the tragedy in a Facebook post: “On Saturday, July 13, 2024, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Naomi drowned in the Willamette River near river mile 132 in Corvallis, approximately 100 yards upstream from the Mary’s River.”

“A BCSO investigation revealed that three swimmers on inner tubes and a paddle board attached to each other became caught on an exposed obstruction in the water. One of the swimmers, Naomi, was pulled underwater and held onto the paddle board’s line.”

Both Webster and the third person were safely recovered by the Corvallis Fire Department. Additionally, Pomeroy’s body has not yet been found. “I am committed to finding Naomi and bringing her home to her family and loved ones,” said Sheriff Van Arsdall. “I want to thank everyone involved in the search and recovery mission and supporting us during this difficult time.”

Many people took to social media to honor Pomeroy’s life and lasting legacy. “We are devastated to hear of the tragic loss of super-talented chef Naomi Pomeroy. She and I bonded over stressful cooking challenges on Season 3 of Top Chef Masters. My condolences go out to Kyle, August and all their dear friends,” Mary Sue Milliken said on X (formerly Twitter).

Top chef Judge and celebrity chef Tom Colicchio also expressed his condolences to X: “Just terrible news, we have lost another great chef. My sincere condolences go out to Naomi’s family.”

“The news of Naomi Pomeroy’s untimely death is incredibly tragic and shocking. My deepest condolences go out to her family, loved ones, colleagues and community. I just rewatched one of our text message exchanges and she was so smart, funny, open and willing to offer advice,” Amanda Freitag added.
