Impairment in accident with life-threatening injuries to the driver and the young person is being investigated

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Impairment of a vehicle in connection with a crash that left a teen and his driver critically injured and three other teens with less serious injuries is under investigation, Kansas City, Missouri police said.

The accident occurred around 5:13 p.m. at Interstate 470 and Blue Ridge Boulevard.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a blue Chevrolet Suburban was traveling south on Blue Ridge Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

The Chevrolet struck a Honda Ridgeline that was stopped at a red light waiting to turn left from Blue Ridge Boulevard to enter I-470.

After colliding with the Honda, the Chevrolet drove onto a concrete median and hit two traffic lights before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Chevrolet and a teenager who was sitting in an unbelted child seat were taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.

Three other teenagers were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police suspect that the driver of the Chevrolet was impaired.
