Houston County to vote on leasing old sheriff’s building

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) – Houston County Commissioners will decide whether to lease the former Houston County Sheriff’s building.

The commission will decide whether to lease the former sheriff’s building to the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Their current downtown office property will be purchased by the City of Dothan and demolished for use as a parking lot for the new Dothan City Hall.

The old sheriff’s building has since been renovated with more than $1 million in work. Thus, two floors of the building can be used for their office.

The basement will be used to store county records.

This leaves at least one floor of vacant space.

“It has to be something in line with probation and parole, so maybe the law enforcement office one day or if the courthouse needs additional office space, but right now we don’t We have no immediate plans.

The county will vote on approving the lease Monday.
