Santa Barbara police investigate connection between theft and hit-and-run – edhat

Santa Barbara Police are investigating a series of events that occurred Thursday night on East Gutierrez Street involving a theft that led to a hit-and-run crash.

The hit-and-run victim, who suffered minor injuries, was struck shortly after a theft occurred at the Smart & Final grocery store. Police were notified of the incident around 9:30 p.m. when the communications center received a 911 call regarding the car crash.

Further investigation by police on Friday led to important findings. In particular, it is believed that the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run accident is the same vehicle used in a theft in the same area earlier that evening.

While the investigation is ongoing, Santa Barbara Police are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the ongoing case. Anyone who can provide details is asked to contact Santa Barbara Police at 805-897-2465.
