MONROE, NC (NEWS FROM QUEEN CITY) — A man wanted for a robbery in Peru was arrested after a traffic stop, but the Union County Sheriff’s Office said he has since been released on bail.

On Saturday, July 6, officers stopped 37-year-old Eberth Walter Bernales for allegedly having an expired registration.

Bernales was already wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) for a robbery in Peru. Details of the robbery were not disclosed.

INTERPOL was informed of the arrest but refused to issue arrest warrants to keep Bernales in prison.

During the traffic stop, he was charged with driving without a license and driving without liability insurance. Bernales was given a $2,500 bail and is no longer in jail.
