A remote community is in mourning after a popular 24-year-old national motocross champion was killed in an industrial accident.

Jake Williams suffered serious head injuries while working in the carpentry shop on Raglan Street in the outback town of Roma in central Queensland early Friday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and found Mr Williams unconscious at around 1:50 a.m.

Tragically, he died at the scene of the accident.

In 2016, Mr Williams took two victories in the Queensland Motocross Championship, winning the 250cc 15-year-old class and also the 125cc 13-15-year-old class at Hervey Bay in the state’s south-east.

The website Motoonline.com reported that “Mr. Williams simply dominated the entire weekend’.

Mr. William’s love of motocross is evident on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, where he posts numerous pictures and videos of himself training and competing on dirt tracks.

He had sponsorship from Yamaha, which supplied him with motorcycles.

Roma local Thomas Wilkinson posted several stories about Mr Williams’ death on Facebook with the caption “Fly high brother”.

His friend Remi Kai wrote on Facebook that Mr Williams was “taken too soon”.

“A wonderful young man whose life was cut short far too soon. You made everyone who knew you proud and brought so much to your life,” Alanah Ladbrook also wrote.

Thomas Wilkinson said: “Fly high brother,” while Remi Kai wrote: “Taken too soon our dear friend.”

Mr Williams was a hugely enthusiastic motocross rider and had won Queensland titles in the age group

Mr Williams was reportedly seriously injured in the machine accident.

A spokesman for the Department of Occupational Safety and Health said the tragedy was under investigation.

“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is investigating an incident that occurred at Roma… to determine whether the matter was work-related,” he said.

“WHSQ was notified of the incident by the Queensland Police Service who were first to respond to the incident.”

The police are also preparing a court report.
