Police say the Crescentville crash that killed a toddler was an accident

A 31-year-old woman accidentally hit and killed her 2-year-old daughter outside her Crescentville home Wednesday as she drove away in her SUV after unloading groceries, police said.

The woman double-parked in the 200 block of Comly Street to bring in the food around 5:30 p.m., Assistant Police Commissioner Frank Vanore said. She didn’t realize her 2-year-old daughter had followed her outside, and as she drove away, he said, she hit the child.

Police did not identify the woman or child Thursday.

The child was taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he was initially in critical condition but was pronounced dead a short time later.

No charges are expected to be filed in the accident, which Vanore said, “It appears to be a tragic accident.”
